MISAMIS Oriental is targeting at least 2,300 of its employees for random drug testing which started last month.

In a phone interview yesterday afternoon, Capitol Administrator John Ladaga said the random drug testing is being conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

Ladaga said the provincial government under Governor Peter M. Unabia ordered the random drug testing to ensure that the Capitol workplace is drug-free.

For his part, Provincial Board Member Geraldo Sabal III said the majority of members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan on February 13 approved Ordinance 1574, otherwise known as ‘Drug-Free Workplace.’

He said the ordinance mandates the provincial capitol to conduct random drug testing on its employees every two years.

“Pero depende na kini sa gobernador kung himoon niya kada tuig ang random drug testing,” said Sabal.

Sabal added that the ordinance is in compliance with the order of the Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos, Jr.

He said all local and provincial governments are required by the DILG Secretary to pass an ordinance for a drug-free workplace.
