THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in Northern Mindanao has urged partner agencies and businesses to be responsible taxpayers as it appealed for their support for the bureau’s programs and initiatives.

BIR’s call is in consonance with its campaign theme “Tulong-tulong sa Pagbangon, Kapit Kamay sa Pag-ahon, Buwis na Wasto, Alay Para sa Pilipino,” held at BIR covered court in Barangay Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City, recently.

“This tax campaign is conducted every year to encourage individuals and businesses to comply with tax laws and regulations as well as to raise awareness about tax obligations,” said Emir U. Abutazil, BIR revenue region 16 director.

The Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Cagayan de Oro, and Misamis Oriental local governments also participated in the event by signing a pledge of support for the Bureau’s programs and initiatives for 2023.

“The business sector is very supportive of BIR, we appreciate the programs of the BIR, especially on digitalization,” President of CDO Chamber and Commerce Industry Foundation Inc. president Raymundo Talimio Jr. said.

BIR’s utilization of online platforms such as eRegistration, the Electronic Bureau of Internal Revenue Forms, Electronic One-Time Transaction, and ePayment Channels has the goal of making transactions easier and more efficient for the public.

The campaign focused on the different plans and programs that the bureau had to stop fraud and tax evasion. This included trade enforcement operations against people who sold illegal and unregistered cigarettes in the country.
