MANY have complained about the loud noise emitted from motorcycles either because the tailpipes were modified or the mufflers were removed. The disturbance caused by insensitive and inconsiderate motorcycle riders usually occurs deep in the night when people in the neighborhood are supposed to be sound asleep.

Those inconsiderate and insensitive riders are even often reported to have engaged in drag racing on city streets. And most often they go unpunished.

These insensitive bunches contribute nothing good except maybe to the statistics in hospitals.

I have noticed that oftentimes the police conduct checkpoints where motorcycles are being flagged down. Whatever the reason for those checkpoints, it may be best to include checking on the tailpipes and outrightly impounding those units that have undergone unauthorized modification. This way, noisy motorcycles are gradually taken off the streets.

The malls can also help in taking noisy motorcycles and cars off the streets by refusing them entry into their parking areas. Noisy motor vehicles should not be allowed to enter those private parking areas.

Maybe the RTA can also help in this by assigning teams at night to check on noisy vehicles, impounding those that are caught, and penalizing their riders and drivers. The RTA and the LTO can go hand in hand in this campaign if only for them to make their jobs instead of them being made by their jobs.

There may have to be a city-wide “limit their access” campaign.
