AS Cagayan de Oro City’s daily active number of Covid-19 cases dropped to double digits, Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy reminded Kagay-anons anew today to get vaccinated and comply with minimum public health standards.

“(Per the latest word that I received) Cagayan de Oro City is under Alert Level 1. Even without an order from our City Health Officer Dr. Rachel Dilla, I call on every Kagay-anon to resume wearing face masks. I don’t want another repeat of what we experienced anew when a lot of our businesses were closed and our movements were restricted,” Mayor Uy said in Visayan during Tuesday’s flag-raising program.

Mayor Uy issued this reminder even as the national government’s Inter-Agency Task Force placed Davao de Oro province under Alert Level 2 until April 30 due to its high incidence of Covid-19 cases.

Davao Region’s health care utilization rate went up to 34.6 percent from 30 percent for non-intensive care unit (ICU) beds and 42.5 percent from 40 percent for ICU bed use.

In Cagayan de Oro City, the City Health Office (CHO) disclosed that the city’s daily active Covid-19 cases went down to 66 cases as of 10 pm on May 1. Of that number, the city recorded three new cases and six new recoveries while 35 patients remain admitted in the city’s private and public hospitals. About 30 were confined in the city’s isolation facilities.

The CHO said the city also recorded one locally stranded individual (LSI) who contracted the virus.

Starting April 23 when Cagayan de Oro City logged 106 daily Covid-19 cases, the number went down to 86 cases the following day, 66 daily active cases on April 25, about 55 daily active cases on April 26, and 75 daily active cases on April 27.

The CHO cited Cagayan de Oro City’s high vaccination rate of at least 81 percent but CHO immunization program coordinator Dr. Ina Grace Chiu repeatedly called on the Kagay-anons who have yet to complete their vaccination or remain unvaccinated to receive their shots.

Mayor Uy also called on the public to have their children vaccinated against measles and polio at their nearest barangay health center. (Stephen Capillas of City Information Office)
