Town Administrator Invinsor Taray said 30 fishermen in Talisayan received one fiberglass pump boat each.

It can be recalled that Talisayon town had the second highest number of fishermen affected by the searline that brought strong waves and devastated some of the town’s coastal areas on the evening of December 24, last year.

A number of fishing boats were destroyed when the searline hit and one of the most affected coastal areas were in Talisayan, Taray told Gold Star Daily.

The capitol, in cooperation with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-10, and through the initiative of Rep. Unabia launched the program.

“The fishermen in the eight affected areas in Talisayan are now using the pump boats,” Taray said.

Under the program, some 120 fishermen have received one pump boat each across the province, said BFAR-10 officer Arlene Novo.

Novo added that the construction of the pump boats was done through the “Banka ko, Gawa ko” program.

Sila na gahimo sa mga pump boat isip mao na ilang counterpart ug kami lang sa BFAR ang nag provide sa mga materials,” said Novo.

The 120 pump boats are worth P9,535,271, Novo added.

Other recipients of the program are fishermen from Gingoog (40), Medina (15), Balingoan (14), Magsaysay (10), El Salvador (five), Balingasag (four), and Laguindingan (two).

Sa katapusan, nakabalik na gyud mi sa pagpanagat nga maoy una namung source sa panginabuhian diri sa Talisayan,” one of the recipients, Fernando Lazano of Barangay Calamcam, said.
