A CANDIDATE for Mister Cagayan de Oro City will not be able to join the pageant’s culmination night after he was shot to death last Tuesday.
City Police Director Police Col. Aaron Mandia identified the victim as Andriane Rovic Fornillos, 23, single, and residing at Youngsville subdivision, Opol, Misamis Oriental.
He was having a video call with members of a group chat when he was shot once in the head which resulted in his instantaneous death.
According to witnesses, the victim had just emerged from a house located at 13th Street, Barangay Nazareth when the incident occurred.
The victim was about to ride his motorcycle, a Yamaha Nmax with plate number 385-KEV when suddenly two persons on board a tricab arrived and one of them shot the former.
Before shooting him, a witness told police, he was ordered to take off his helmet. After the incident, the suspects hurriedly left the place in an unknown direction.
Fornillos was rushed to Northern Mindanao Medical Center only to be declared dead.
According to Noy Fornillos, the victim’s father, he learned that his son was at the said place to practice for his chosen talent as the competitions will be this coming Sunday.
He described the victim as very versatile, loving, thoughtful, and very serious in his studies.
He said he his son had no death threats as he was very friendly to anyone.
He said he is not convinced that the killing was in relation to the pageant.
He said he already has a suspect but refused to identify him saying, he will leave the matter to the police investigators.
The victim was a representative of Barangay Lapasan. He was a graduating civil engineering student at Liceo de Cagayan University who would supposed to graduate in July, this year.
As of press time, authorities are still identifying the gunman and his cohort for possible arrest.
