SMALL but terrible Mary Jane Lusdoc of Misamis Oriental turned the taller Chloe Ehlize Sajulla of Iligan City into sobbing during their hardly-fought badminton match in the Northern Mindanao Regional Athletic Association (NMRAA) Meet: Cluster 3 Games held over the weekend at the city gymnasium of Gingoog.

But friendship and sportsmanship prevailed between the two athletes and their coaches after the smoke of battle cleared.

Misamis Oriental Sports Executive Director Efren Pollentes told Gold Star Daily that host Gingoog City Mayor Erick Cañosa, himself a standout of the shuttlecock sport, was very happy that the province produced many badminton qualifiers for this year’s Palarong Pambansa.

“We always take pride in promoting and developing badminton sport in Gingoog City that also regularly supplies talents for the top universities in Manila whom we are seeing them every now and then strutting wares in the UAAP and NCAA Games. Normal ra sa dula nga adunay mohilak kay part kana sa development especially kon usa ikaw ka very passionate athlete,” Pollentes said.

Many times, Iligan City’s Chloe Ehlize Sajulla takes a break to wipe out tears as the smaller Mary Jane Lusdoc of Misamis Oriental makes her life difficult during their NMRAA badminton match at the Gingoog City gymnasium. Still, the two end up in a warm embrace that showcases the triumph of sportsmanship and friendship above the competition.

Here are some of the dramatic scenes of the match through the lens of Lynde Salgados.
