THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI-10) exhumed and performed an autopsy on a body of a woman buried for almost six months in a cemetery in Barangay Sibantang, Talisayan on May 11.

In a phone interview this morning, May 13, NBI-10 Regional Director lawyer Patricio Bernales said the exhumation and autopsy were requested by relatives who wanted to know if the woman died of natural causes or if there was foul play.

“The autopsy was done in almost two hours and was performed by the bureau’s pathologist based in Davao City,” Bernales said.

Elma O. Calayca, daughter of the dead woman (Revica O. Calayca), said her mother died on November 25, last year.

Among gipa autopsy sa NBI arun masayod mi kung tinood ba nga among inahan namatay sa cardiac arrest o dunay laing hinungdan,” Elma said.

Elma alleged that her mother was pushed by Barangay Chairman Jay Paguia where her mother fell to the ground and her head hit the pavement.

Mao nga gatoo ko mao na’y namatyan sa akong mama ang pagkatumba tungod kay gituklod,” she said.

However, Revica’s death certificate showed that the cause of death was “Acute Myocardial Infarction” more popularly known as a heart attack.

For his part, Paguia denied the accusation saying what happened was an accident.

Kalit lang natumba iyang mama ug dili tinood nga ako siya gituklod,” Paguia told Gold Star Daily.

Elma said her father, Alfredo D. Calayca, filed a homicide case against Paguia on December 16, 2022, before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office but was dismissed on January 13, this year for lack of probable cause.

The Calayca family said they will also seek help from the Commission on Human Rights to reopen their case against Paguia.
