“The partnership aims to continue the city scholarship program, which provides opportunities for students to pursue their education,” said Mayor Uy.

To date, there are more than 9,000 city scholars, which includes those who were newly awarded scholarships on June 2.

Earlier, Office of the Mayor Chief of Staff Shiela Lumbatan said this figure is a testament to the city’s dedication to education and Mayor Uy’s goal of reaching 10,000 city scholars during his first term in office.

“Mayor Uy’s commitment to providing educational opportunities for the residents of Cagayan de Oro City is evident in the current number of city scholars,” said Lumbatan.

According to Lumbatan, the mayor’s efforts to expand the scholarship program have led to more students being able to pursue their dreams and achieve their goals.

Councilor Magtajas-Daba said the scholarship program is part of the LGU-CDO’s Scholarship Code of 2018, which created an administrative office and expanded scholarship tracks to further support the program’s implementation through partner academic institutions.

“Academic schools can join the partnership without any restrictions as long as they agree to abide by the city scholarship code and the agreed rates,” said Magtajas-Daba.

She said the expansion of the scholarship program is a testament to the city’s commitment to providing educational opportunities for its residents.

“With the addition of these new academic institutions, more students in Cagayan de Oro City will have the chance to pursue their dreams and build a brighter future,” the councilor said.

The agreement signing was attended by representatives from partner academic institutions such as Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan, Lourdes College, and University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines, as well as Liceo de Cagayan University, PHINMA-Cagayan de Oro College, Capitol University, Pilgrim Christian College, Southern Philippines College, and STI College Cagayan de Oro.

For his part, the mayor expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that it will enhance the city’s scholarship program and provide more opportunities for students to pursue their education.

Uy also added that the signing of the agreement signifies a renewed commitment to education in Cagayan de Oro City, and the city looks forward to seeing the positive impact of this partnership on its students and community.

Cagayan de Oro City’s scholarship program has expanded this year with the addition of three academic institutions.

Golden Heritage Polytechnic College, Vineyard International Polytechnic College, and Informatics Computer Institute-Cagayan de Oro Center, Inc. have all joined the partnership, which provides full scholarships for selected city scholars.

Uy also clarified that the agreement between the city and the academic institutions outlines the selection process for the scholarship program, which will not involve political accommodations.

Instead, the partner academic institutions will take on the primary role in implementing the program.

The agreement also covers full scholarships for selected city scholars for the entire year, including tuition and miscellaneous fees.

“The expansion of the scholarship program is a testament to the city’s commitment to providing educational opportunities for its residents,” said Uy.

With the addition of these new academic institutions, more students in Cagayan de Oro City will have the chance to pursue their dreams and build a brighter future, according to Uy.
