EXCITING battles in various sports disciplines are now underway after Thursday’s ceremonial rites of the Cagayan de Oro Charter Day Inter-Agency Sportsfest at the City Hall ground of Cagayan de Oro.

No less than Olympic boxing silver medalist Carlo Paalam, who just copped another gold during the recent South East Asian Games in Cambodia, graced the ceremonial rights.

In gracing the city’s 73rd Charter Day celebration, Unabia said it’s just the first time in many years that the city celebrates the occasion in true friendship and unity with its counterparts from the province of Misamis Oriental.

To this, Uy said, “Relationship is very important among the local political leaders towards achieving a genuine development.”

The local governments of Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental lead over a dozen sports delegates from the Department of Education, Philhealth, PNP, Water District, Department of Environment and National Resources, Department of Social Welfare and Development, and Philippine Ports Authority, among others, vying for the crowning glory in basketball, volleyball, badminton, chess, lawn tennis, and table tennis events from June 9 to 14.
