ILIGAN City ― As the jeepney I was riding in passed through some side street, I saw a prominent establishment that said: “Battleground area.” What, I thought that small room, a battleground area? And then instant enlightenment, that was just for video games. Youths would enjoy those battles within.

And then I remembered. Video games have a real life as inspirations. What is happening in Taiwan with flying saucers above it hovering, no, not saucers for these are not “aliens” from outer space. But from people who were once with them decades ago.

Now, Taiwan must go back, to them, or else.

America which has been so friendly with it is poised to fight it out against China. Hence, that Edca thing. That Edca means an alliance with this country, supposedly to ally and help save this country from China. But really to have a fighting chance vs. that country in connection with Taiwan’s situation. Because if it is really this country it is defending, why only now?

This Edca thing then with all those places in the country, from Luzon to Mindanao where these Americans can place their weapons to fight it out makes this country instead an ideal “battleground” for them. Poor Pinoys.

The present leadership couldn’t care less. And the people too.

So, battleground, it is! I hope these “analysts” are wrong. That said, we just have to contend with the thought that this might be a very heavy issue. So, for a moment, let’s just leave it at that. Until, until…who knows?

Now let’s go to some battleground at the parochial level. Maybe this is kind of somewhat fathomable, and understandable.

I am talking about this “world-class” market at Palao costing half a billion pesos. Which after 3 years, has not been finished–yet. So, people here are in the “comparing” mode. They compare it with a structure at nearby Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte, a convention center costing P100 million under its mayor Rommel Arnado. In just a half year it had been finished, ready for the International Organic Agriculture Congress just recently finished.

But this Palao market? Which had been under 2 mayoral leaders, then Celso Regencia, and now Frederick Siao hasn’t been finished. Until now.

The contractor, BM Marketing had been terminated recently, under this Siao leadership, for “rightful” reasons. Per its thinking, that is. The battle doesn’t use weapons of destruction. Only “logic” using words. Words vs. words. Technicality vs. technicality. Like, if the contractor had been wrong, why are they made to “stop” only now?

And more “technicalities” aired. And now, this has become a three-sided battle– that of Siao, of Regencia, and the contractor, BM Marketing, of course.

Recently, BM, under Edgar Tiu filed a petition in Court for a Temporary Restraining Order on this termination. The present leadership then under Siao moved to “dismiss” it. But the judge, which I later knew as Albert Quitos, did not agree with Siao. He did not grant such dismissal. He though said he will inhibit as a judge on said matter. So this will be raffled as to whose sala it would fall. To decide who’s who. Who wins, I mean?

This means Courts are good as battlegrounds too in matters like these!
