The Municipality of Villanueva takes great pride in honoring and celebrating the outstanding corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts of the top locators within its economic zone in the 1st Bongloy Best CSR Practices Award.  

The awarding ceremony is in line with the LGU’s 61st Araw ng Villanueva festivities. The LGU’s recognition highlights the companies’ significant contributions towards social development and sustainability.

Among the awardees is Filinvest’s FDC Misamis Power Corporation (FDC Misamis) for its exceptional commitment and dedication to making a positive impact on society.  

“FDC Misamis Power Corporation takes immense pride in its role as a responsible corporate citizen that regularly contributes towards the community through various sustainable initiatives. FDC Misamis has always remained committed to supporting education, healthcare, environment, livelihood, and cultural-related activities in Villanueva,” said Villanueva Mayor Jennie Uy-Mendez.  

For FDC Misamis, the award reflects the power of collaboration between the public and private sectors in driving meaningful change. It is a testament to the shared vision and unwavering dedication of its team, as well as the trust and support extended to by the LGU.  

“This recognition from the Municipality of Villanueva, one of the most promising municipalities in Misamis Oriental, is genuinely humbling,” said Juan Eugenio L. Roxas, President and CEO of FDC Misamis. “On behalf of FDC Misamis, and the Gotianunun family, I express our sincere appreciation to the LGU, especially to Mayor Jennie Uy-Mendez, for acknowledging our efforts to make a positive impact locally,” he added.  

“This award symbolizes the power of partnership, the strength of collective action, and the endless possibilities that lie ahead when the public and private sectors work hand in hand,” noted Roxas.  

“Over the years, the Filinvest Group, through FDC Misamis, has gone above and beyond its corporate responsibilities to address social challenges and promote sustainable development. Its CSR initiatives in the region have touched the lives of countless individuals and communities, leaving a lasting and meaningful impact.”

FDC Misamis’ initiatives span a wide range of areas, including education, livelihood, healthcare, environmental conservation, community development, and empowerment.  

One of its significant contributions to Villanueva is the financial benefit under the Department of Energy’s ER 1-94 Program. During the pandemic, FDC Misamis downloaded more than PHP 11 million to Villanueva, contributing to enhancing the healthcare services of the LGU. The financial benefit has funded various COVID-related initiatives, such as promoting preventive measures against the spread of the virus, providing essential medical supplies and equipment, and constructing isolation facilities.  

Another impactful project is the Andrew L. Gotianun Sr. Center for Integrated Technologies (ALGCIT), a cutting-edge facility for senior high school students dedicated to fostering innovation, collaboration, and skills development in the field of technology managed by Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan. ALGCIT is an endowment from the Andrew Gotianun Foundation. The program offers specializations in Machining Technology, Instrumentation Technology, and Mechatronics Technology. It addresses the educational needs of marginalized students through scholarships and mentorship programs to ensure equal opportunities. Through this initiative, students can break the cycle of poverty, gain industry-relevant skills, and become valuable contributors to the region’s technology ecosystem.  

FDC Misamis owns and operates a 405-megawatt thermal baseload power plant in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental, which significantly contributes to the stability of the Mindanao grid. Its parent company, FDC Utilities, Inc. (FDCUI), the power and utility arm of the Filinvest Group, is also pursuing the development of sustainable energy projects such as solar, hydropower, biomass, and waste-to-energy projects.  

Other recipients of the 1st Bongloy Best CSR Practices Award include Steag State Power Inc. and Philippine Sinter Corporation.
