DIGOS City ― A couple inside a house in Purok-6, Sitio Pungot, Barangay Escuela, Tugbok District in Davao City luckily escaped unharmed from the blazing structure where a bolt of lightning struck their home at around 7:43 pm on Sunday.

Gemma Sebastian de los Reyes and her husband Jaime were busy doing their respective chores inside their house when lightning hit the rooftop, igniting the light materials that quickly spread all over the place that prompted the couple to get out and call 911 from a safe distance.

Major Elisa Ramirez, Los Amigos police station commander in a report said a team onboard Mobile 2125 was dispatched to conduct public safety and order during the situation.

The personnel of BFP in Mintal, Calinan Fire Station, and firefighters of Central 911 rushed to the scene in an effort to contain and suppress the conflagration. At 8:12 pm, it was declared fire-out, the police report said.

Senior Fire Officer 1 Genesis Sitcharon of BFP Mintal told police the lightning ignited the light materials on the second floor of the house and spread out on the ground floor.

No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident. Fire investigators estimated the damage at P700,000.
