A 26-year-old motorcycle driver died while his back ride, a minor, was hospitalized in a head-on collision against a wing van cargo truck, yesterday morning.

The incident occurred along the national highway in Talisayan, Misamis Oriental.

Police Acting Provincial Director Choli Jun Caduyac identified the victim as Marlo Idpalina, single, a resident of Barangay Mahayag, Talisayan; and his backrider whom the police did not mention for being a minor.

According to the police report, the said (Rusi) motorcycle driven by the victim without a plate number was heading towards Cagayan de Oro but upon reaching Barangay Tagbocboc the incident happened.

According to the truck driver identified as Ruel Mondilla, 46 of Barangay San Isidro, Talakag, Bukidnon, the collision happened when the steering wheel of his driven truck with plate number JAI 8436 malfunctioned and crashed into an oncoming motorcycle.

Due to the impact, Idpalina and his companion were thrown from the motorcycle and both slammed into a concrete pavement of the highway.

People who witnessed the incident rushed the victims to the Misamis Oriental Provincial Hospital-Talisayan for treatment but unfortunately, the motorcycle driver was declared dead upon arrival.

The minor is now undergoing treatment for sustaining bruises and wounds on his body.

Police said that aside from the absence of a plate number, Idpalina had no pertinent papers for driving.

The truck driver is now under the custody of Talisayan police for further investigation.
