ILIGAN City ― Sometimes I go to the plaza and engage in people-watching. For there are always all types of people there, the good, the bad, and well, the “never mind.” I didn’t say “ugly” because that’s the title of a movie that clicked, if only for its title.

Sometimes, I get to see Mike, my nerdy friend, who from time to time too, I suppose goes there maybe, to boost his nerd of a mind.

Anyway, that afternoon, when I sat there at the cemented sides of the place, there he was too, maybe doing some people-watching, so unlike the other youngsters who are just fiddling with their gadgets. He’s watching those gadget fiddlers too because the area is a wifi zone.

“Hi,” I said to him, glad to see him. He gave me a “hi” too and sat too in the cemented seats at the plaza’s edge not too far from where I sat.

“Glad to see you, Ma’am,” even as I expressed my gladness too upon seeing him. Then we heard the music of the song, “Sound of Silence,” and commented on it. I said that the songwriter, was it someone called Garfunkel got blind because of some doctor’s prescription. Even so, in his state, he was able to play basketball, because of the “vibrations” that he made use of. Where no ordinary mortal would make use of.

And Mike too expressed his knowledge of vibrations. That Beethoven too, being deaf, appreciated his music through the vibrations that he felt with his hands when playing some musical instrument, like the piano.

He always had something to say on anything on some topic under the sun. Thus, when we talked about some hot topics like the International Criminal Court and Duterte, I said a few weeks ago my comment on the matter was that ” I happen to remember Hitler, that even if there were thousands and even millions of people rendered dead, the German people still idolized him, and saying such words as “Hail Hitler”.

And Mike made a rejoinder, something like the Duterte Youth was “copied” from “Hitler Youth.” And then I expressed my, “Oh, is that so?’

Then our topic drifted to the recently held graduation exercises, I commented on a speech of a high school valedictorian, a poor one, and his struggles to be at the top of his class. So that, he and kids like him would be assured of some “good employment” in the future.

“Something’s wrong there,” I said, remembering the number of job order casuals at city hall under the now Frederick Siao term as mayor. Which they say number more than 8,000 even outnumbering then Mayor Celso G, Regencia’s j o then.

“Because we’re a bunch of ‘wage slaves; “, Mike said, without batting an eyelash.

“Yes,” I agree. And Mike said instantly, “You should read Robert Kiyosoki’s books. “There is so much to learn there. Like “Rich Dad, Poor Dad.”

“Y–yes, maybe,” I said somewhat not really entirely convinced. ” But you should interview boss Ernesto:”Toto” Chu of this paper, Gold Star Daily!” Mike’s “ha?” was really automatic. And, I continued: “After the necessary introductions, begin by asking, “How did you do it, Boss? This phenomenon, called Gold Star Daily?”

This elicited another “ha?” from my nerd of a friend, Mike!
