IN a Monday’s flag-raising ceremony hosted by the City Information Office, Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy shared an important message to the city’s bureaucracy—a gentle reminder to prioritize public service and go the extra mile.

This call for exemplary service stems from Mayor Uy’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that citizens receive the best possible assistance and care from the local government.

City Mayor’s Office chief of staff Shiela Lumbatan said that the mayor emphasized the importance of serving the public with a smile.

The mayor is urging the city’s bureaucracy to foster a culture of customer-centricity, where every interaction with the public is characterized by warmth, empathy, and professionalism,” according to Lumbatan.

“By doing so, the mayor believes that the city’s residents will feel valued and heard, thus improving overall satisfaction and trust in the government,” said Lumbatan.

Mayor Uy’s reminder holds significant weight, as it not only emphasizes the importance of public service but also encourages employees to go beyond their prescribed roles.

He highlighted the need for each member of the bureaucracy to go the extra mile in attending to the needs of the citizens, demonstrating a sense of dedication and genuine care.

“This commitment to exceeding expectations ensures that the people of Cagayan de Oro City receive the highest level of service possible,” Lumbatan said.

Moreover, Lumbatan said that the mayor’s call to action reflects his vision of a city characterized by efficiency and effectiveness.

By reminding the bureaucracy to serve the public with a smile, Mayor Uy aims to create a positive and welcoming environment in City Hall, Lumbatan reiterated.

He understands that cheerful and approachable government employees foster a sense of trust, making it easier for citizens to seek assistance and engage with the local government for their needs, she said.

To further instill this culture, Mayor Klarex Uy plans to provide training and workshops for city employees.

These programs will aim to enhance skills in customer service, communication, and empathy, ensuring that every interaction between residents and government officials is handled with care.

“Such initiatives demonstrate the mayor’s commitment to continuous improvement and reflect his desire to cultivate a bureaucracy that goes above and beyond expectations,” said Lumbatan.

Lumbatan also added that Mayor Uy’s reminder aims to create a warm and welcoming environment in the local government.

“Our mayor hopes to instill these values within the bureaucracy and ensure that every interaction with residents is characterized by professionalism, empathy, and dedication,” ended Lumbatan
