PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) has identified 16 locations in Lanao del Sur province that may face security concerns during the upcoming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

According to PCol. Robert Daculan, Director of the Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office, the list of potential areas of concern may change closer to the elections, based on developments following the filing of the certificate of candidacy.

Among the towns highlighted are Malabang, Pualas, Bayang, Tubaran, Lumbatan, Masiu, Piagapo, Marogong, Marawi City, Butig, Tamparan, Ganassi, Pagayawan, Lumbac Unayan, Balabagan, and Maguing. Daculan also provided the categorization of barangays in the first and second districts based on their security concerns.

With their preparation efforts, including the coordination conference and deployment proposal, the PNP aims to ensure peaceful and orderly elections.

Despite the province’s generally peaceful status, Daculan acknowledged the presence of threat groups, such as remnants of the Dawlah Islamiya – Maute Group and other criminal organizations, which could potentially influence the security situation.

Nevertheless, the PNP remains committed to securing the province.
