This initiative has been launched in response to an alarming increase in suicide attempts and incidents within the city, according to Lumbatan.

The introduction of this helpline underlines the city government’s commitment, led by Mayor Rolando Uy, to addressing mental health concerns and suicide prevention.

“The helpline aims to provide immediate attention and care to individuals facing mental health issues or contemplating suicide,” said Lumbatan.

Lumbatan added that this initiative was organized under the leadership of City Psychologist, Jaymee Leonen-Pagaspas, in collaboration with the City Mayor’s Office the and City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Department (CDDRMD).

“This collaborative effort is a testament to the city’s commitment to mental health support and suicide prevention,” said Lunbatan.

In addition to the mental health helpline, Lumbatan also said residents can dial the city’s emergency hotline number 911 for immediate assistance.

“The launch of the helpline and the provision of multiple contact avenues highlight the city’s efforts to ensure help is readily available for those in need,” she said.

The city is also preparing to commemorate ‘World Suicide Prevention Day’ on Sunday, September 10th.

As part of the city’s observance, Lumbatan said a suicide prevention awareness walk titled ‘Lakaw alang sa Paglaum’ (Walk for Hope) is scheduled to start at 7:00 am from Rodelsa Circle to the Amphitheatre.

“The walk is designed to raise awareness about suicide and mental health,” said Lumbatan adding that to show solidarity with those affected by such issues.

Following the walk, she said, a special program will take place, which aims to further educate and provide support to the community on these critical issues.

“The launch of the mental health helpline is a significant step in this journey towards better mental health care and suicide prevention,” said Lumbatan.
