THE Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) in Camiguin Province recently conducted a cybersecurity competency framework training.

The event, held from November 13–15, brought together 20 participants from various national line agencies to bolster the province’s digital landscape.

The training centered on cultivating a cooperative approach to safeguard against cyber incidents.

Participants learned how to protect, detect, respond to, and recover from such threats.

The curriculum was designed to provide both proactive measures to prevent potential issues and reactive strategies to mitigate and recover from cybersecurity threats effectively.

Expressing gratitude for the initiative, Engr. Ramon Erlo Luchana, the provincial officer of DICT Camiguin, noted that the training was realized due to a request by Rep. Jurdin Jesus Romualdo to DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy.

“In today’s uncertain world, where technology is integral to our lives, it’s fundamental to have a robust cybersecurity framework,” Luchana said.

He highlighted the shared commitment towards strengthening the region’s cybersecurity measures, considering the ever-evolving nature of cyber threats.

Luchana pointed out the vulnerability of both the public sector and private enterprises to cyber attacks.

He stressed the need for a proactive cybersecurity portal. In addition, DICT-10 emphasized collective responsibility across all sectors and societal levels, illuminating the role each plays in defending against cybersecurity threats.

Audie Enguito, an IT personnel of DepEd Camiguin, shared his experience from the training.

“What I learned in this training is the scientific approach to dealing with cyberattacks and the step-by-step procedures,” he said adding that before this, they had no idea how to treat the attacks, which made their work very challenging and unsynchronized.

In line with the broader initiative, a cybersecurity awareness program was also organized for students at Camiguin Polytechnic State College on November 14.

This program is part of the ongoing efforts to instill a culture of online safety among the younger generation.

The DICT’s cybersecurity initiatives exemplify the government’s commitment to secure and resilient digital environments.

These efforts aim to protect individuals, organizations, and communities across the region, highlighting the growing importance of cybersecurity in today’s digital age.

As the digital landscape continues to evolve, the DICT’s training programs and initiatives are playing an increasingly vital role in safeguarding the province’s digital landscape.

This latest training signifies another step in the right direction, ensuring a more secure digital future for the province of Camiguin.
