ILIGAN City ― “The truth shall set you free.” This is quoted by many. Yet this can be relative. No, I don’t mean that the more successful you are, the more you have relatives. But this might be true too as to the “relativity”.

Am speaking here of the two claimants of the truth. This is in the matter of who the true Association of Barangay Council President here is. Cesarve Siacor says he’s the one. But another group says it is Clint Catubig. The latter group had an election.

So, the barangay captains now are segregated, unlike the garbage here that are not?

Joking aside, Siacor says there was “no quorum” when the scheduled Dec. 1 general assembly did not materialize. A group of more than 20 of the 44 did not show up. So they were not able to form committees to facilitate the scheduled Dec. 15 elections. The committees should have been established to facilitate such elections, like the receiving of the certificates of candidacy, the ones who would tally, the ones who would declare the winners, etc.

Yet the latter group came up with election results on the 15th. Because, per Dante Daplin’s statement, “we had the quorum.” The operative word now, is “quorum”?

To be fair, the “winning” ABC President on the other side, Clint Catubig, did not say even a mouthful on the matter. But his rabid, I mean avid supporters did. Like Daplin or Jun Lino Bacus.

But the President of the National League of Barangay Council Eden Chua-Pineda said that the elections here on Dec. 15, are “null and void.” Thus reinforcing the truth expounded by Cesarve Siacor. Pineda added in a press conference that the elections of the ABC might be in January or next month.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod though has completed its sessions for this year 2023. So, the “truthful” ABC President can’t join the councilors of the city, as one of them for it is mandated that he is to be one of them.

We can then assume that either of the two claimants of “the truth” is saved by the bell. I am then reminded of the time when I was made suddenly to make a speech before some media practitioners. And I quoted that one. About the “truth shall set you free.” But whose “truth” is it? Is it my truth? Your truth? Or the truth according to somebody else?

There was some laughter. But, I think this is no laughing matter.
