IN Iligan City, two days after the National President of the Association of Barangay Council declared the election of Acmac Barangay Chair “null and void,” the group insisted in another press conference that their election was “in order” due to having the required quorum.

Their legal representative, Atty. Dexter Rey Sumaoy, stated that they plan to submit the election results to the National League of Barangay Council in Manila. However, he added that they would respect the decision of the National League if their actions were deemed improper.

In an earlier press conference, Eden Chua Pineda declared the election “null and void” citing non-compliance with rules, such as the establishment of committees on December 1 to facilitate the scheduled December 15 elections. Pineda also pointed out details like who would accept the certificates of candidacy for the ABC President and other officers, who would conduct the counting, and who would handle the proclamation of the winners.

Cesarve Siacor, barangay chair of Tomas Cabili, explained in various interviews with reporters that on December 1, the general assembly of the 44 barangay chairs did not materialize due to a lack of quorum. Most of the newly elected barangay chairs were having their oath-taking ceremony on that date at Frosty Bites, overseen by Congressman Celso G. Regencia of the lone district of the city.
