BOXING Day, or the day after Christmas, came from a tradition of a time when people boxed presents to give to the less fortunate. However, this giving of presents is now usually done before Christmas or any day in December.

This tradition has evolved, and people now have their way of celebrating Boxing Day.

Let’s talk about our ways of celebrating the day after Christmas. It’s closer to what happens or, more like, what you do or don’t do the day after Christmas.

It’s the day when the effects of food coma set in, and you have no choice but to let your belt out. What a relief! Then you realize you overate, and you start writing your New Year’s resolution. Top on the list, you guessed it right, going on a diet.

Another common thing that we do the day after Christmas is eating leftovers. Either we reheat it or think of leftover recipes. Creative minds are needed here. Quick!

And once the leftovers are gone, it’s back to cooking 101, once again. It’s time for veggies, tofu, fish, and chicken recipes. It’s time to crack one’s brains again.

It is also a time when we visit relatives and meet up with friends, and also a time for most class reunions.

Another thing that we commonly do is to binge-watch movies or series. Or for bookworms, obviously, non-stop reading of their favorite books or latest book hauls from their neighborhood bookstore.

For the entrepreneurs, they also have a sale on this day. If you have already completed your Christmas shopping, take advantage of the slashed prices. Buy those Christmas decorations for next year. Make sure, though, that these are classic pieces. Maybe you can also stock up on advance gift-buying.

Do we catch up on our sleep? Maybe for some, but we usually don’t because we feel like there are several things to do before regular programming starts. And that’s work for you, for most of us.

But what do we do on Christmas morning?

When all of us open our presents at the stroke of midnight, my brother opens his presents on Christmas morning. My son and I couldn’t wait. We open at midnight. Even as a kid, I opened my gifts before midnight. My father once caught me opening my gifts and wrapping them back.

Whatever suits your fancy, be it savoring the leftover fruit cakes and cookies, lounging around and just feeling sluggish, or being a mall rat racing for that last pair of Samba, do it with a devil-may-care attitude. It’s the day of the year when everything seems to be carefree.
