Gingoog City Chief of Police, Lt. Col. Cecilio Orcullo, declined to disclose comprehensive information, citing the victim’s minor status.

Orcullo provided limited details through text messages, revealing that the lifeless body of a 12-year-old girl was found around 10:30 am on January 9 in Purok 2 of Barangay Minbalagon.

The victim’s brother made the gruesome discovery and promptly reported it to the authorities, Orcullo said.

Abanil emphasized the need for a swift resolution to the situation to ensure justice for the victim. In a statement posted on his Facebook account (Ed Abanil), he condemned the tragic incident.

“I condemn in the strongest possible terms the rape-slay of Angel Mae, a Grade 6 pupil of Mimbalagon Elementary School. Another dream has been cut short by a criminal act, leaving her parents and relatives in grief,” Abanil posted.

He further highlighted the compromised safety and security of learners due to the heinous actions of criminal minds, stating that criminality has no place in a civilized society.

“The perpetrators must be brought to the full extent of the law,” Abanil asserted, urging barangay and city officials, as well as law enforcement, to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.

Abanil stressed the importance of safeguarding learners from malevolent forces, lurking in the shadows and ready to victimize others.
