Hundreds of Bukidnons will now have immediate access to adequate, safe, and quality blood supply after the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) inaugurated on January 8 the first ever blood center in Bukidnon, an upgrade from the PRC Bukidnon Chapter’s previous blood collecting unit and blood station.

The new center has four (4) state-of-the-art blood refrigeration units that can hold up to 500 bags of different types of blood. The center also has machines for blood testing and laboratory equipment that are capable of processing different components of blood, such as red blood cells, plasma, and platelets.

It can be noted that before, the PRC Bukidnon Chapter’s blood collecting unit could only collect, store, and dispense whole blood. The testing for transfusion-transmissible infections was conducted in PRC Misamis Oriental-Cagayan De Oro Chapter. 

PRC Chairman and CEO Richard “Dick” Gordon said that the upgrade and the opening of the first blood center will make it easier for Bukidnons to obtain their needed blood supply.
