CAGAYAN de Oro has garnered commendation for its exemplary financial management, receiving the 2023 Good Financial Housekeeping seal under the leadership of Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy.

The City Mayor’s Office announced the accolade Monday, underscoring the city’s commitment to financial transparency and accountability.

Chief of Staff Sheila Lumbatan, from the City Mayor’s Office, spoke to the significance of the award, noting it as a clear indicator of the city’s successful financial policies and its adherence to ethical governance.

“This seal is a testament to our city’s unwavering dedication to sound financial practices and our transparency in handling public funds,” Lumbatan remarked.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) recently acknowledged 90 local government units in the Northern Mindanao region with the Good Financial Housekeeping (GFH) seal for their adherence to financial transparency and for meeting the standards of the Commission on Audit (COA).

The accolades were distributed among five provinces, one highly urbanized city, seven component cities, and 77 municipalities.

The GFH, an evolution of the former Seal of Good Housekeeping, forms a crucial part of the prestigious Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG).

The SGLG is awarded to local government bodies that exemplify strict compliance with accounting and auditing standards.

Lumbatan credited the achievement to the collective efforts of Mayor Uy’s administration, the city’s administrative body, and various departments, all of whom have consistently upheld stringent financial management standards.

Under Mayor Uy’s leadership, the city has consistently emphasized the importance of financial responsibility and accountability, Lumbatan emphasized.

“The Good Financial Housekeeping seal is a reaffirmation of our commitment to governance excellence and fiscal responsibility,” she said.

Lumbatan also pointed out that this recognition is a significant benchmark for Cagayan de Oro, demonstrating the city’s capability to manage its finances effectively, which in turn strengthens the confidence of both residents and investors.

Upon learning of the award, Mayor Uy expressed his appreciation to the city staff and officials, whose dedication and hard work were instrumental in securing this distinction.

He reinforced his administration’s dedication to upholding the highest standards of governance and financial management to benefit the people of Cagayan de Oro.

Moving forward, Lumbatan assured that the city intends to build upon this success by continuing to ensure responsible financial stewardship and maintaining transparency and accountability in fiscal operations.

Cagayan de Oro City’s recognition for financial housekeeping serves as a motivational example for other local governments, emphasizing the vital role that responsible financial management plays in fostering sustainable and equitable development.
