A DELEGATION from Zamboanga City visited Cagayan de Oro City to learn about the best practices in local governance, thus said City Mayor’s Office chief of staff Sheila Lumbatan Friday.

Led by City Councilors Jerome Santos, Al-Jihan Edding, Marxander Jaime, El King Omaga, Jimmy Villaflores, and Vincent Paul Elago, the officials aimed to gain insights into Cagayan de Oro’s successful people’s council ordinance and market-related local ordinances, according to Lumbatan.

During their two-day stay, the Zamboanga City delegation took a city tour, exploring historical sites such as the city museums, McArthur Marker, and the iconic Rio de Oro Boulevard.

Lumbatan said the visit was part of their benchmarking activities to enhance their understanding of governance and partnerships.

She said Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy warmly welcomed the group and expressed his appreciation for their visit.

The delegation, Lumbatan shared was graciously hosted by members of the 20th City Council, including Vice Mayor Jocelyn Rodriguez and City Councilor Ian Mark Nacaya, who authored the ordinances the Zamboanga officials were interested in.

The exchange of ideas and insights between the two city councils aimed to foster mutual growth and development for both cities, she explained.

The visit provided an opportunity for the officials to discuss and learn from the successful practices implemented in Cagayan de Oro, with the goal of applying similar strategies in Zamboanga City.

The benchmarking activities are part of Zamboanga City’s efforts to study and adapt successful governance models and local ordinances from other cities.

“The visit to Cagayan de Oro City signifies a step towards enhancing the governance and partnerships in Zamboanga City,” said Lumbatan adding, as the officials aim to implement best practices for the benefit of their constituents.

The exchange between the two cities highlights the importance of collaboration and learning from each other’s successes, according to Lumbatan, ultimately contributing to the development and improvement of local governance in both Zamboanga City and Cagayan de Oro City.
