DAPITAN City– The city government celebrated on Friday the 154th birth anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal, the country’s national hero, in a simple yet fitting ceremony. The celebration kicked off at 7 a.m. with floral offerings spearheaded by Mayor Rosalina Jalosjos at the Rizal Monument at the City Plaza.
The mayor was joined by officials of government agencies, non-government organizations and other sectors.
“We are very proud of Dr. Jose Rizal. Without him being exiled here (Dapitan City), this place will not be known as it is today,” Jalosjos said.
Rizal lived in exile in this city during the Spanish regime from 1892 to 1896. City Information Officer Vicky Cad-Bangara said the highlight of Rizal’s 154th birth anniversary celebration here was the inter-agency Rizal’s Quiz 2015.
