MALACAÑANG uesterday said the frontline agencies led by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) have started their preparations for the rainy season. Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte made this assurance as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) announced last Tuesday that the rainy season has officially started.

“Our NDRRMC and the frontline agencies continue to coordinate to make sure that all the necessary preparations are in place for the rainy season,” Valte said. She said part of the preparations is the prepositioning of goods and medicines that will be needed in time of emergencies and possible evacuation of the affected residents. “We are hoping that our local government units are doing their parts by inspecting the drainage to make sure that it will not be clogged by garbage during heavy rains,” Valte said. At least 16 storms are expected to hit the country before year-end. pna
