This was the daunting challenge made by Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Region 10 Director Dr. Sabdullah Abubacar to the 49 youths “baptized” as the new “green” ambassadors through the recently-concluded Environmental Youth Camp (EYC) held at Mapawa Nature Garden in Barangay Cugman, Cagayan de Oro City, in celebration of Environment Month.

The two-day event themed “Our Environment, Our Welfare” was sponsored by the Filinvest-led FDC Misamis Power Corporation (FDC Misa-mis) in coordination with EMB Regional Office 10 in Northern Mindanao.

Participants were a mix of secondary and tertiary students from schools in the towns of Tagoloan and Villanueva in Misamis Oriental and cities of Iligan and Marawiin Lanao del Norte.

Abubacar, in his speech, stressed to the young participants that “no one can ever escape now from rapid developments.” “And as we develop, we have no more escape from global warming. But still, you need to think globally,” he pointed out to the young audiences.

The EMB 10 regional chief underscored the essence of a sustainable and balanced development through protecting the environment in the midst of progress anywhere in the country now.

“That’s why you are here (at EYC). We educate you about the basic environmental laws, and we train you how to take care of our environment and even how to survive amid disaster(s). Because we want you to be the next front liners on ‘war’ against environment,” he continued.
