THE Cagayan Electric Power and Light Co. yesterday apologized for the blackout on Tuesday that lasted for some seven hours, saying it was confronted with technical problems.
Cepalco, in a public notice, said technical problems affected Cepalco’s Kauswagan Feeder 1 substation delaying the restoration of the power supply in portions of Kauswagan, Puntod, Macabalan, Agora in Lapasan, Consolacion and the Divisoria area.
The areas are under “Group 3” in the Cepalco’s power load shedding schedule that was implemented starting on Monday due to the power shortage in Mindanao.
“Cepalco sincerely apologizes to customers being served by the Kauswagan Substation Feeder 1 (under Group 3) for the extended brownout last night due to some technical problems encountered during the switching works,” reads part of the firm’s statement.
It said the power supply was supposed to have resumed in these areas at around 9 am on Tuesday night based on the schedule. “Unfortunately, switch on attempts failed, prompting our engineers and engineering crews to do on-site troubleshooting where technical problems were encountered.
Cepalco said its Systems Operations Department then decided to temporarily do a by-pass of the affected power lines so that power in the affected areas can be restored within the evening. Cepalco said the line work took more than two hours to complete and power supply to the affected areas was finally restored around 11:45 pm.
The blackout however lasted longer or until around 1 am, at least in Barangay Consolacion.
Cepalco said it planned to make up for the extended blackout “as much as possible by trying to spare” the affected areas from the rotating power outages scheduled yesterday.
