BUTUAN City––The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the National Police over the weekend said they would investigate into the alleged death threat against a councilor here.

The councilor, Engr. Sergio Pascual, has sought the help and protection of authorities. Caraga police regional director Chief Supt. Vert Chavez said the worried Pascual went Camp Rafael Rodriguez to seek help. The councilor claimed he received text messages that a group was hired to liquidate him.

Radio station DxBC-Radio Mindanao Network called up NBI director Virgilio Mendez, and the official assured that he would have the matter looked into by the Bureau’s agents.

Pascual told reporters the threats could be due to politics and business matters. Councilor Jaime Cembrano, chairman of the city council’s committee on peace and order, said he, too, would look into the alleged death threats.

Pascual has caught the ire of many political and business personalities in the city because of his stinging speeches at the city council.

A company lawyer earlier threatened to sue Pascual after the councilor allegedly said that if something happened to him, a business firm’s executive and another politician should be held responsible.
