In the morning, the participants were provided inputs and theories of fire stages identification, protection and prevention and the appropriate course of responses and actions in cases of fire emergencies.

They were also grouped and organized to become the barangay volunteer fire brigade and as the first responder in cases of fire emergencies in the barangay. The afternoon session was spent on actual demonstration and hands-on participation on the use of fire extinguisher, extinguishing fire off a flaming liquefied petroleum gas tank, first by using a bare hand and then by the use of a fire extinguisher. The pailelay, actual throwing and rolling of the fire hoses, fire hoses connections, connecting the hose to the fire truck, feeling the water pressure and actual aiming of the activated hoses from the fire trucks towards simulated fire scenario under time-pressure turned to be more tensed, exciting and enjoyable as the participants were divided into three groups (two groups of volunteer participants under an appointed leader and the third group composed of the barangay council members and employees led by Brgy. Capt. Roasrio himself), which the fire trainors made it into a sort of a competition.

Brgy. Libertad is the largest of the 86 baran-gays of Butuan City, having a population of about 21,000 and has recently become a site of economic, tourism, infrastructure and housing development projects. (PNA)
