THE president of a press club in Davao del Norte died yesterday morning, hours after he was riddled with bullets in Tagum City the night before.

The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP), in a “media alert,” identified the victim as Gregorio Ybañez, president of the Davao del Norte Press and Radio-TV Club (DNPRC).

The NUJP said Ybañez also served as a director of the Davao del Norte Electric Cooperative (Daneco). Ybañez was reportedly shot several times while he was about to enter his house at Purok Santan, Mirafuentes Subdivision in Barangay Magugpo-North, Tagum City, at around 10 pm Tuesday. He came from a meeting at the Big 8 Hotel.

He was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead by doctors at 6 am yesterday. The NUJP said initial reports showed that the gunman was riding a Honda Fit sub-compact four-door car.
