“MANAGEABLE.” This was how city hall’s chief for traffic administration described the flow of vehicular traffic in the city as a result of the pre-fiesta day parade yesterday morning.

Engr. Nonito Oclarit of the Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) said the four and a half-hour Higalaay parade of floats and icons adversely affected the flow of vehicular traffic in the western and eastern areas of the city.

The RTA had to close the entire Don Apolinar Velez St. and a portion of CM Recto Avenue towards Limketkai center in Lapasan because of the parade participated by 116 contigents, causing a domino effect on the traffic flow in Iponan, Bulua, Patag, Bayabas, Bonbon, Kauswagan, Puntod, Macabalan, all the way to Bugo.

But Oclarit said the traffic flows were “manageable,” and the RTA’s plan worked. “Successful kaayo ang atong traffic scheme gawas lamang nga mihinay gyud ang flow sa mga vehicles kay ato mang gisera ang dalan Velez ug Recto Avenue,” he said.

He said the ongoing Bitan-ag bridge project on a portion of CM Reco Ave. and another project on Kauswagan near Bulua aggravated the problem.

But Oclarit said the flow of vehicular traffic in Balulang, Canitoan, and Pagatpat was relatively smooth because the vehicles were rerouted toward the Cogon area, vice versa.

Olclarit said the traffic flow went back to normal at around 10:30 am. (nitz arancon)
