Amante, during a political gathering at Uncle Sam’s Restaurant here, told his supporters he would seek another office term in city hall wihout Fortun at his side.

He said he was saddened because he and Fortun have been a team in the 2010 and 2013 elections.

Amante’s 2016 ticket includes Vice Mayor Angelo Calo, councilors Ryan Anthony Culima, Jaime Cembrano Jr., Nestor Amora, Samuel Allan Amante, Ramon Carampatana, and Dr. Virgilio Nery Jr..

Two councilors, lawyer Rema Burdeos and Ferdinand Nalcot, have reportedly joined Fortun who formed another group in preparation for the 2016 elections.

Talk have been going the rounds about the Amante-Fortun breakup but the two officials kept on denying it until Amante’s announcement.

Amante said, “I chose the straight path, and chose the interest and welfare of the people of Butuan City. Congressman Fortun, maybe for some reasons, chose the other, and so we parted ways.”

He said he sent Fortun a text message to inform the congressman “that it was so sad we had to end our political relationship this way.”

Amante said he respected Fortun’s decision.  “All I can say is, good luck to him,” he said.
