REP. Rolando Uy of the city’s 1st District yesterday came short of endorsing his mayoral bet in 2016 as he responded to mayoral aspirant 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez’s claim that he supposedly promised to support his counterpart’s bid to unseat Mayor Oscar Moreno.

“Pasagdi, pasagdi,” said Uy of Rodriguez’s claim that he gave the 2nd District congressman his word. He neither confirmed nor denied that he made a promise to support Rodriguez.

Uy said he and Rodriguez talk to each other “because we work in Congress together.” “But I’m with the Liberal Party,” Uy told the Gold Star Daily. “Liberal ko.”

Rodriguez, who plans to challenge Moreno’s reelection bid, is the head of the Centrist Democratic Party (CDP) while Moreno is the local chairman of the administration Liberal Party (LP).

Moreno and Uy were seen in public during a gathering LP leaders of Mindanao here last week. Photographers caught them exchanging pleasantries and in serious discussions in the hotel where the LP activity was held.

Uy, Rodriguez, and Moreno forged a political alliance in the 2013 elections that was credited for the first defeat of the then mayor Vicente Emano in an election.

But the political alliance crumbled in Sept. 13 when Rodriguez announced over radio station DxCC that he has decided to run for mayor in May 2016.

Uy, who would likely seek reelection, earlier said he would announce his endorsement this month. (with reports from herbie gomez)
