FIRST to personally respond to my column “ad” and come to my house was a first year nursing student of Capitol University, Rachelle Jane S. Zarate, 21, of Puntod, Cagayan de Oro City. Her father is a policeman and her mother a is a plain housewife.

The books she chose were: 1. International Edition of General, Organic and Biochemistry 2. Fifth Edition of Maternal and Child Health Nursing, Care of the Child bearing and Childrearing Family by Adelle Pillitteri 3.Essentials of Human Anatomy and Physiology by Elaine N. Marieb 4. Textbook of Medical and Surgical Nursing, Volume 2 by Susanne Sweltzer, Brenda G. Bare, Janice L. Hinkle and Kerry H. Cheever.

Rachelle has agreed to be featured in my column and promised that when it’s time to pass it on to the next deserving students, she would gladly do. She looks trustworthy though, and I am certain she won’t fail my daughter’s wish.

To Rachelle, study well. It’s not easy to be a policeman. Give honor to what your father sweats for.

More than 10 books are waiting for the next interested party/s.

Is “DENDEN” a name? It can’t be. Otherwise, using it in a car plate does not look good, short of an abuse of one’s stature in our society.

Yes, everybody loves a winner, be it a name or a person. There is prestige being a member of a known organization or fraternity. But we should be circumspect in the use of our logos or insignias for things that are deemed illegal or improper.

Embellish your cars if you must. It’s your right. But car plates have a standard for everyone to follow. Let’s not feel and act over-privileged. Neither your position nor wealth grants you the right to be different from the rest.

And what have our authorities been doing about it? You can’t arrest only the poor and the underprivileged or become guilty as they are.

So, why aren’t we making noise over poor services by giant servers? Is it because our voices are still voices in the wilderness, not strong enough to merit attention?

The last few days, even in open space, I could hardly get a signal from Globe. I thought something was wrong with my unit. S—t, when we’re late in our payment, you get cut off automatically. Try to complain about it, and you will get an answer, “It’s in the system, Sir.”  But when you complain, you are asked to wait till the system gets to you. Whew, talking of getting your money’s worth.

And while writing this piece, my Globe Internet is just superb in slowness. Click your mouse or press a key, you get that round things spinning for seconds or minutes as if trying to hypnotize you. Of course, Globe is not ashamed of it, and their representatives can only be apologetic at most.
