Cesar Renerio, spokesman of NDF-North Central Mindanao Region has called on Kagayanons to unite and stand against the plan of the US government in converting former-Lumbia Domestic Airport as one of the eight military bases throughout the country.

He said Edca has formalized their re-entry of US base in the country as the national government approves previous agreement through the Access and Cross-Servicing Agreement (Acsa), Status of Forces Agreement (Sofa), Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA), and the Mutual Logististics and Support Agreement (MLSA).

He added that the present administration completely set-aside the call of the progressive and caused-oriented groups who frequently marched on the streets when the Supreme Court decided in favor for the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (Edca) the other day.

Earlier, the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) has projected P2 billion budget over the next two years to redevelop and redesignate airports in Cavite and Cagayan de Oro to decongest the country’s main gateway, Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) in Metro Manila.

Transportation Secretary Joseph Abaya plan to implement in two stages, starting with the relocation of an air force base in Sangley Point, Cavite to Lumbia Airport in Cagayan de Oro.

The government estimated a cost of P1 billion to have the Philippine Air Force and transfer the 15th Strike Wing and other its facilities in Lumbia.
