According to Chief Supt. Lyndel Desquitado Desquitado, police director for Region 10, Camp Alagar sent the recommendation to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to include the city in the “top priority list” for close monitoring due to the rivalry among three strong mayoral candidates, and in order to prevent any ruckus during the election period because of their supporters.

“I am instructing all police units to place the entire city under heightened alert status kay daghan ra ba kaayo kini sila og mga supporters in the barangay level. Basin magka-initay,” Desquitado said.

Desquitado said he would also place the entire region under a heightened alert status because three days after the local campaign period is the anniversary of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA).

“We expect nga duna sila’y buhaton in connection with their founding anniversary. Delikado man gud kini kay basin sakyan ang kainit sa politika karong panahuna,” Desquitado said.

Desquitado has already given orders for local police stations to raise their alert from heightened to full depending on the situation.

“I am giving full authority to various local police stations to raise their alert level from heightened to full alert if the worst scenario would happen in their area,” he said.

Desquitado has also cautioned candidates and officials against handing any kind of support to rebel groups.

“We will remind all the local officials not to send any kind of support to the rebel forces which they call as ‘campaign revolutionary fund,’” he said.
