MISAMIS Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vicente Emano yesterday took his oath of office as the province’s reelected leader with a call for courtesy resignations as he hinted of a looming capitol revamp.

Ferdinand Dy, chief of the capitol’s disaster risk reduction management office, reportedly submitted his courtesy resignation before Emano’s announcement.

Emano sought the resignations of key capitol officials whom he appointed to hold positions coterminously with him before he starts serving his second office term on June 30.

“To those who are holding appointive positions, I am formally asking you today of your courtesy resignation before June 30, 2016 to give me more time, to put people who I think and I believe are more effective in serving our people. I know it’s not easy but this is not about friendship, this is about serving our people,” Emano said as he addressed capitol officials and workers yesterday morning.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, an Emano political appointee told the Gold Star Daily that the governor was dismayed with some of the people he appointed to key positions because they failed to meet his expectations. The source said courtesy resignations would make it easier for Emano to effect changes in the capitol.

Emano denied that his call for courtesy resignations was a “loyalty check” move. He said he has been calling for courtesy resignations following his reelection since his office term as mayor of Tagoloan town.

He said he hoped his appointees would understand his position, and “give me room to improve the services in the province.”
Emano said he had nothing against any of his appointees, and claimed that they have a healthy working relationship.

He said he was happy with their camaraderie, pointing out that this was evident even during the just-held election campaign period.

“The previous election will show nga maayo kaayo ang among camaraderie ug pagsilbi sa mga tawo sa province. But formally, I will always ask [appointees] to give me more room for more services in the province,” he said.

Emano was sworn into his second office term as governor by barangay chairperson Rogelyn Virtudazo of Sangalan, Gingoog City. Roman Catholic priest Fr. Juliano Retiquez of the Indahag parish, stood beside Emano while holding a Bible as the governor took his oath.

Emano won a reelection with 243,972 votes over his challenger Villanueva Mayor Julio Uy who garnered 175,835 votes.
