TO intensify preparedness and readiness of the government agencies, schools and private entities in building safer communities, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and Office of Civil Defense (OCD) will conduct a nationwide simultaneous earthquake drill on Wednesday, June 22, 2016.

The drill aims to ensure public preparedness in the event of a major earthquake. This is the 2nd nationwide drill for 2016, and for the 1st quarter, private schools were catered by CDRRMO.

Mr. Patrick S. Dap-og, Special Operations Officer I of CDRRMO said that this is a very significant activity for it could help us save ourselves if there is an actual earthquake.

“The drills are designed to enhance capability but unfortunately, the drills are not taken seriously by some, and since involvement among the public is inconsistent, the City Government of Valencia would devise ways and measures to create public awareness,” Dap-og said.

Disaster preparedness and coordination are among the things to be evaluated during the drill. The evaluators from OCD and CDRRM Council will assess the proper coordination of participants and responders during the drill.

Capt. Alejandro L. Larosa, Executive Officer of City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) said that in the event of an actual disaster, citizens should be prepared and should know the basics in emergencies.

“This quarter, CRDDMO have identified three locations for the drill: First Bukidnon Electric Cooperative (FIBECO), Valencia City Water District (VCWD) and Valencia Baptist Christian Academy (VBCA),” Larosa said.

CDRRMO continues to remind the netizens of the drill protocol during earthquakes: Duck, Cover and Hold Maneuver and other emergency responses. (EJ MONTEBON)
