I HAVE always been intrigued about how some people comment on social media fan pages especially when it comes to trending and current events/issues. I am definitely sure you have seen their kind along the way. They are the ones who lack the right information, and lose sight of the topic at hand or they just don’t see the bigger picture. They are called the keyboard warriors.

Trolls hide their identities but not the keyboard warriors who comment on topics without reading the entire news. They merely formulate their opinions based on the headline, and post half-cock comments unmindful if they make sense or not.

This is a free country, and so they think they can become Mr. Know-it-All, donkeys and racists without a backlash.

Take the case of the West Philippines Sea dispute. There are Chinese Filipino communities in this country and many of them are also strongly opposed to China’s bullying.

The topic is trending. And so we see a lot of them making it appear that they know what’s best and what the solution is. Sometimes, reason goes out the window, and consequences are not weighed. It wouldn’t kill them to read the whole story before they dish out gibberish nonsense.

I see a common trend: they propose to boycott Chinese products, and preparations for a war. They also question why former President Fidel V. Ramos, a “relic,” would be sent to help in the talks with China. There are lots of hate messages and deep-seated biases towards the Chinese community have surfaced.

Are these fools really ready to walk the talk? I doubt. They seem patriotic at first but in the end, it turned out they don’t know the facts. They just base their opinion on the titles of news stories.

I am not saying we must yield without fighting but there are other ways to fight. Violence is unnecessary.

They seem brave but I bet my money that 80 percent of these warmongering keyboard warriors are not prepared to lay down their own lives, and will start making excuses and say that “it’s the military’s job, I’m a civilian” in the event of a war.

President Duterte doesn’t need to send soldiers in case of an armed confrontation at our doorsteps; he could always count on all the “patriotic keyboard warriors” to do it. I say strap them up with weapons and ammunition and send them to the frontlines, and let’s see them realize that armed conflict isn’t the smartest way to solve the dispute.

Truth is, they and politicians won’t be in the frontlines. It will be soldiers from both countries who have families and loved ones who will do the dying part. If history has thought us a lesson, nothing good will ever come out of wars.
