Iligan City -— “There are several legal remedies, like Motion for Consideration.”
This was the statement to media yesterday by Atty. Jenric Garcia, counsel of Rep. Frederick Siao regarding the order of the Ombudsman to dismiss him as penalty for “grave misconduct and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the public.”
The lawyer added that what happened is just part of the “consequences,” which a politician has to deal with from “political opponents.”
He added that Siao is just considering it as among the challenges that comes with the service.
“There are many legal remedies that we have to do,” he reiterated like filing for an MR. He said the congressman has to be given due process.
“There are higher courts that will review the case. Right now, Siao will continue performing his services to the people,” Siao’s lawyer said.
To recall, the case was filed in 2014 by city administrator Dexter Rey Sumaoy, city administrator of Mayor Celso Regencia. The complaint was relative to the lease by the local government to a lot used as a terminal that did not undergo a public bidding. This began during the administration of then city mayor Lawrence Ll. Cruz in 2004 and continued by the city until today during Regencia’s time of which Sumaoy is the city administrator.
Owner of the lot, to note is the Lluch family of which Cruz too, whose middle name is Lluch is among the heirs.
This means, the lawyer said that the current administration also saw the importance and wisdom of such move. Siao was a councilor during the year 2010 and voted in favor of said terminal in 2013.
“I was doing it for the greater interest of the people,” Siao said.
