MISAMIS Oriental provincial board member Gerardo Sabal has denied that the province’s legislature would be starting an investigation into the alleged series of drug campaignelated killings in the towns of Tagoloan and Claveria.

Sabal said the provincial board would not summon police officials and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) so they could shed light on the series of shooting deaths.

He said neither would the provincial board’s committee on peace and order, police, fire and public safety start an inquiry into the killings.

“No investigation will be conducted. We fully support the police’s campaign,” Sabal said.

But he said the provincial board has met with police provincial director Supt. Sukarno Alvarez who gave an update on the “Operation Tokhang” campaign in the province.

Alvarez, for his part, said he was willing to face an investigation, and explain that the only time the police would use force is when there is a threat to their lives during an operation. (lito rulona)
