OVER 30 students of the Pedro “Oloy” N. Roa Senior High School in Sitio Calaanan, Barangay Canito-an, have shown signs of “acute stress” after witnessing their classmate stabbing and killing their teacher in class on Tuesday.

If not treated, acute stress could adversely affect one’s mental health.

Estella Fernandez, Psychological Unit chief of the City Social Welfare and Development office (CSWD), said this was the finding of the CSWD after subjecting the witnesses to stress defriefing.

She cited the case of one of the students. “Nagkurog-kurog siya, dili  makatulog, kalit lang siya mahadlok.”

The student, according to Fernandez, saw up close how his classmate stabbed and killed Science teacher Vilma Cabactulan in the morning of Sept. 13.

“Dilikado sa usa ka tawo kon dili ma-agapan dayon ang iyang stress kay moesulta kini sa mental disorder hangtud nga maliso-an sa maayong pangisip,” Fernandez said.

She said the CSWD has planned a series of stress debriefing sessions for the students. Yesterday’s session was the second since Tuesday, the day the 15-year old Jimmy (not his real name) killed the 9th grade class adviser.

Fernandez said even the faculty and staff of the school were included in the stress debriefing program of city hall.
