JUSTICE Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II on Friday revealed that the reason why former city prosecutor Fidel Macauyag was transferred to the Department of Justice (DOJ) central office was because he has nine administrative cases.

The cases, Aguirre said, were filed by a foreigner and a businessman.

Aguirre said at last five administrative cases were filed against Macauyag by Reuven Barranovich, an Israeli.

Barranovich, who runs a lending firm, and Macauyag have traded accusations in public, and sued each other.

Four others, he revealed, were filed by a Metro Manila-based businessman he identified only as “Sulep.”

I can’t enumerate the complaints against Macauyag. Some are with the Office of the Ombudsman,” said Aguirre, hinting that there is now a recommendation to suspend the former head of the City’s prosecution office.

Aguirre said Macauyag is on “floating”status.

Macauyag served as city prosecutor here until last month. He was replaced by Merlynn Uy who is also the senior assistant of the regional prosecutor.

Based on an order, the Department of Justice (DOJ) detailed Macauyag to the Office of the Prosecutor General “to assist in the investigation and prosecution of cases.”
