The official, Wayne Militante, called on the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) in this city to start an investigation because the mud has already started to affect the Odiongan River here.

Militante told local radio that he first received the information about the dumping of mud from concerned villagers.

He said a contractor of a government project was responsible.

Militante said farmers living near the Odiongan River have also started to complain. “Lubog kaayo ang Odiongan River nga naapektuhan sa lapuk nga gipang dump didto sa Mamato River ug mga mangingisda apiktado.”

Militante said the soil reportedly came from the hinterlands of Minalwang where a multimillion-peso road construction project is ongoing. The project would provice a link between Gingoog and Bukidnon.

Unless stopped, Militante  said, the mud would adversely affect fishing in Odiongan and Pangasihan.

He said it would also affect people in Malinao, Dinawihan, Camanican, Malibud, Tagpako and parts of Anakan.

Rey Fernandez, Cenro head, said he sent a letter to the contractor but there wasa no reply yet. He said the Cenro also received a complaint about the dumping of mud.
