A LAWYER yesterday hurled brickbats at the city council for asking two judges to give residents of at least two barangays, affected by writs of demolition, more time.

Lawyer James Judith, counsel of the owner of disputed properties in Barangays 31 and Barangay 66, said the city council resolution addressed to Judge Gil Bolluzos of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 21, and Judge   Eleuteria   Algodon of the Municipal Trial Court Branch 5 could be seen as “intervention.”

The city council earlier asked the judges to extend the deadline to March 30, 2017.

Judith said it was improper for the city’s legislature to intervene, and the request was unfair to his client.

He pointed out that residents of Barangay 31 and Barangay 36 who lost in an ejectment case have repeatedly been given enough time.

“In fairness sa tag-iya, dugay ra ni nga kaso, ug   kinahanglan pod nato  lantawon ang perspective as  property  rights  sa  mga  tag-iya,” said Judith.

Judge Algodon earlier issued a writ of demolition that would adversely affect some 140 families in Barangay 31 tomorrow.

Judge Bollozos has also issued a similar order that would affect some 69 families in Barangay 36 on Nov. 15.

Councilor Zaldy Ocon, chairman of the city council’s committee on urban poor, said the city’s legislature did not dictate but only appealed to the judges so that city hall could prepare a relocation site for the would-be displaced families.
