MISAMIS Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano yesterday inaugurated the jump-off point to the Agutayan Island in Barangay Jampason, Jasaan town, calling it the fulfillment of “a simple dream for a huge municipality.”
The government spent over P9.8 million to develop the jump-off point and its surroundings as part of the capitol’s thrust of giving Misamis Oriental a boost.
With yesterday’s inauguration, Emano said the white island can now accommodate tourists.
“Sili mahutdan og turista ang Jasaan tungod ani,” said Emano.
The jump-off point now has tourism facilities and amenities.
Emano said the place would also have trained massage therapists, cooks that would serve Filipino delicacies like kakanin, and tourist guides well-versed on the history of Jasaan.
Emano said villagers can even make money by operating pumpboats that would bring tourists to the Agutayan island.
He also said that from Agutayan island, tourists can be brought to the Kimaya port where they could buy fresh seafood, and then take their meals at the Sagpulon Falls in Jasaan.
All these, according to Emano, would generate livelihood income for townsfolk.
Jasaan Mayor Jonathan Po said townsfolk are now faced with the challenge of protecting and preserving Agutayan island.
