THE Padayon Pilipino is hoping to forge an alliance with the administration PDP-Laban, a party it severed ties with many years ago and clashed with in the city on several occasions since the ’90s.

Misamis Oriental Gov. Vicente Emano said he was looking forward to seeing the Padayon Pilipino forging ties with the administration party that was founded by former mayor and Senate president Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel Jr..

Emano, Padayon Pilipino chairman for Misamis Oriental, said this would be discussed during his party’s first regional convention today.

Emano said the Padayon Pilipino would create a group that would work for the proposed PDP-Laban-Padayon Pilipino coalition.

“Our group will be much happier kung, finally, magealign kami sa PDP-Laban,” Emano said.

Emano’s party clashed with the PDP-Laban on several occasions here for years. Padayon Pilipino’s founder, ex-mayor Vicente Emano, and Senate President Aquilino Martin Pimentel III, PDP-Laban president, fought each other during the mayoral race in 2001.

“Our quarrel with the Pimentels before, politika lang kato, nothing personal. We are open for reconciliation with the Pimentels,” said Gov. Emano said.

Provincial board member Gerardo Sabal, a Padayon Pilipino member, said today’s convention is aimed at setting the party’s direction and its position on the proposed shift to a federal form of government.

Sabal said they were expecting a thousand members from across Region 10 to participate in the convention in Tagoloan, the hometown of the Emanos.

Vice Gov. Jose Mari Pelaez said the covention would start at 9 am at the Tagoloan dome, and it would last until 5 pm.

Pelaez said he was unaware of the convention agenda.

“Wala gyud ko masayod unsay agenda kay I was only invited to attend the gathering,” Pelaez said. The invitation, he said, came from Councilor Nadya Elipe.

Former councilor Alexander Dacer, who served as Padayon Pilipino spokesperson in the city, said he was also unaware of the agenda.

“Ambot kaha unsay agenda niini kay sulat  ra man akong nadawat nga ipa-attend ako sa maong kalihokan,” said Dacer.

Dacer said the Padayon Pilipino convention only shows that the political party founded by former mayor Emano in the ’90s is alive and well.
